Guy Penrod

Guy Penrod is a gospel singer known for his powerful vocals and extensive career in Christian music. He was born on July 2, 1963, in Abilene, Texas, and raised in Hobbs, New Mexico, as the son of a pastor. Penrod studied music and vocal performance at Liberty University, where he graduated. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he worked as a studio session singer in Nashville, backing a range of country and gospel artists.

Penrod served as the lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band from 1994 to 2008, a role that brought him widespread recognition. He was part of the group’s project Lovin’ Life, which won a Grammy Award in 2009. In 2014, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Association’s Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

After leaving the Gaither Vocal Band, Penrod launched a solo career in 2009 with the release of his debut album, Breathe Deep. He followed with several more albums, including Hymns (2012), Worship (2014), Christmas (2014), Live: Hymns & Worship (2016), Classics (2017), and Blessed Assurance (2018). His DVD The Best of Guy Penrod was certified platinum by the RIAA. Penrod also hosted the Daystar Television Network program Gospel Music Showcase and was named “Soloist of the Year” by the National Quartet Convention in 2013. He was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
