About Gold City
Gold City is an American Southern Gospel quartet formed in 1980 and based in Gadsden, Alabama. The group originated from a Mississippi-based group known as The Christianairs and was originally owned by Floyd Beck until his death in 1984. Over the decades, the quartet has maintained a full-time touring schedule, becoming a fixture in Southern Gospel music.
Long-time bass singer and manager Tim Riley played a central role in the group’s history, and his son Daniel Riley currently leads the quartet. This family connection has helped carry Gold City’s sound and ministry forward into a new generation.
The group has released a steady catalog of albums, including First Day in Heaven (1981), Movin’ Up (1989), First Class (2004), Heaven (2005), Revival (2006), and Hope In A Manger (2025). Notable songs in their catalog include “I Think I’ll Read It Again” (1984) and “There Rose a Lamb” (1993), the latter of which won the 1993 Dove Award for Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year.
Gold City has also received numerous Singing News Fan Awards, including multiple wins for Album of the Year and Song of the Year, and has achieved multiple number-one songs on the Singing News magazine charts across four decades. In recognition of their lasting contributions, the quartet was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2017.
