for KING & COUNTRY is a contemporary Christian music duo formed by brothers Joel Smallbone (born 1984) and Luke Smallbone (born 1986). The siblings were born in Sydney, Australia, and relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1991. They are the younger siblings of Christian recording artist Rebecca St. James. The group was formed in 2007 and was originally known as Joel & Luke and Austoville.
The duo’s musical style blends pop, rock, and electronic elements with themes of faith and personal struggle. Their discography includes the albums Crave (2012), Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong. (2014), Burn the Ships (2018), A Drummer Boy Christmas (2020), What Are We Waiting For? (2022), and Unsung Hero (The Inspired By Soundtrack) (2024). Notable songs include the single “God Only Knows” (2018).
for KING & COUNTRY has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for Run Wild. Live Free. Love Strong. (2015) and Burn the Ships (2020), as well as Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for “God Only Knows” (2020). The album Burn the Ships received RIAA gold certification in 2021, and the single “God Only Knows” reached RIAA platinum status. The duo has collaborated with artists such as Dolly Parton, Timbaland, and Lecrae.
In addition to their music career, the brothers have expanded into filmmaking. In 2024, they released the biographical film Unsung Hero, which depicts their family’s immigration story.
