Danny Gokey is a contemporary Christian artist and former church worship leader. He was born on April 24, 1980, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and served as a worship director at Faith Builders International Ministries in that city for several years. Gokey rose to national prominence as a third-place finalist on the eighth season of American Idol in 2009. Following his time on the show, he initially pursued a career in country music before transitioning to contemporary Christian music.

He is the founder of the nonprofit organization Better Than I Found It, formerly named Sophia’s Heart. Gokey has released multiple studio albums, including My Best Days, Hope in Front of Me, Rise, Haven’t Seen It Yet, and Jesus People. Among the songs in his catalog are “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me,” “Hope in Front of Me,” “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again,” “Haven’t Seen It Yet,” “Rise,” “Love God Love People,” and “The Comeback.”

Gokey has received several notable recognitions for his work. He is a three-time winner of the K-LOVE Male Vocalist of the Year award and has received multiple Grammy Award nominations.
