About Chuck Girard
Chuck Girard (1943–2025) was an American singer, songwriter, and worship leader who became a foundational figure in Contemporary Christian Music. Before his faith-led career, he was a member of the secular pop groups The Castells and The Hondells, the latter known for the surf-rock hit "Little Honda." His life took a transformative turn in 1970 when he experienced a spiritual conversion at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California. Soon after, he became a founding member of the group Love Song, a pioneering band that emerged from the Jesus Movement in the early 1970s.
In 1975, Girard launched a solo career. Over the next two decades, he released a series of albums including Chuck Girard (1974), Glow in the Dark (1976), Written on the Wind (1977), The Stand (1980), and Voice of the Wind (1994). His catalog also featured songs such as "Sometimes Alleluia" and "Rock 'N' Roll Preacher," which became staples in Christian music circles.
By 1981, Girard had shifted his primary focus toward worship ministry and church-centered music, dedicating his efforts to leading congregations in song. He was also the father of Alisa Childers, a former member of the group ZOEgirl. In 2012, his enduring contributions were recognized when he was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame as a member of Love Song.
