Lyrics
Verse 1
Blessed assurance Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of his spirit washed in his blood

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

Perfect submission, perfect delight
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love

Praising my Savior all the day long

Meaning & Inspiration
“Blessed Assurance,” sung here by Alan Jackson, is the classic hymn of confident faith. The first verse states the claim plainly: “Jesus is mine,” a foretaste of glory, and the singer is an heir of salvation, purchased by God, born of His Spirit and washed in His blood.
The chorus turns that assurance into a testimony: “This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.” The second verse speaks of perfect submission and delight, of visions of rapture, and of angels bringing echoes of mercy and whispers of love from above. The words are simple and the pace is slow, so each line can be sung by a whole congregation.
The themes are close to Romans 8:16-17, Ephesians 1:13-14 and Psalm 34:1, on being God’s children and heirs, being sealed by the Spirit and praising Him continually.
