About Vashawn Mitchell
VaShawn Mitchell is a gospel singer, songwriter, and music minister. Born on November 19, 1976, in Harvey, Illinois, he holds a degree in psychology and has dedicated much of his career to church music leadership. He served as the Minister of Music at Sweet Holy Spirit Church in Chicago for nearly a decade, and in 2016 he was appointed General Overseer of Music & Worship Arts at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. He is also an honorary member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
Mitchell’s solo recording career includes the albums Triumphant, Created4This, Unstoppable, and Secret Place. Among his well-known songs are “Nobody Greater,” “Turning Around for Me,” “Joy,” and “See the Goodness.” “Nobody Greater” was certified Gold in 2019 and was named the most-played gospel single of 2011 by Billboard. His work has earned him multiple Grammy Award nominations and six awards at the 27th Annual Stellar Awards.
Beyond music, Mitchell engages in community service. In 2012 he founded the Norman Youth and Arts Foundation to sponsor summer arts camps for youth, and he has served as an active spokesperson for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation.
