Meaning & Inspiration
“Wonderful, Beautiful, Glorious,” from UpperRoom Music’s live “Design” set, is a spontaneous worship refrain. The chorus declares Jesus “wonderful, beautiful, glorious, matchless in every way,” and the line is sung several times so that the congregation can stay with it.
The bridge adds a reason for the praise: “No wonder they call You holy, no wonder they call You worthy, no wonder they call You beautiful.” The wording points to the heavenly worship described in Revelation 4 and 5, where creatures and elders call the Lord holy and the Lamb worthy.
The themes are close to Isaiah 6:3, Revelation 5:12 and Psalm 27:4, on God’s holiness, the worthiness of the Lamb and gazing on the beauty of the Lord. The song is repetitive by design and works as sustained adoration more than as a story.
