Lyrics

Holy, holy, holy, Lord

God Almighty

Early in the morning my song

Shall rise to Thee

Holy, holy, holy

Merciful and mighty

God in three Persons

Blessed Trinity

Holy, holy, holy

All the saints adore Thee

Casting down their golden crowns

Around the glassy sea

Cherubim and seraphim falling

Down before Thee

Who was and is and

Evermore shall be

Holy, holy, holy

Though the darkness hide Thee

Though the eye of sinful men

Thy glory may not see

Only Thou art holy and there is none beside Thee

Perfect in power

Love and purity.

I bow before Thee, King of glory, holy are You

Lord, none beside Thee

Perfect in power

My God forever

You were and are

And You will be

Holy, holy, holy, Lord

God Almighty

All Thy Works shall praise Thy

Name in earth and sky and sea

Holy holy holy

Merciful and mighty

God in three Persons

Blessed Trinity

I stand before Thee, King of glory, holy are You

Lord, none beside Thee

Perfect in power

My God forever

You were and are

And You will be

You were and are

And You will be

Meaning & Inspiration

I keep thinking about the line where it says the eye of sinful men can't see His glory. It’s heavy, honestly. You look at Isaiah 6, and it’s right there—the train of His robe filling the temple and the seraphim covering their faces. The song pulls that imagery of the glassy sea from Revelation, and it makes me feel small, which I guess is the point. We get so used to talking about God like He’s just a buddy, but this song insists He’s apart from us, like how it says there’s none beside Him. It’s hard to wrap my head around that when I’m just trying to get through a Tuesday.

The part about "God in three Persons" is usually where my brain stalls. It’s ancient, right? It’s not some modern invention. It feels solid because it’s not trying to explain how it works, just stating it like it’s a fact we have to reckon with. But then I get stuck on the "casting down their golden crowns" bit. If the saints are doing that, it makes me wonder what I’m still holding onto that I think is worth anything. Is it even possible to bow that low without being completely broken first? I want to sing it and mean it, but I’m not sure I’ve ever actually stood in that kind of awe where my own life feels that small compared to who He is. Sometimes I wonder if we just sing these big words to feel spiritual without letting the weight of them actually change how we move through the day. Is it just a song, or am I actually standing before Him like the lyrics say?
