Meaning & Inspiration
Hallways is a song about seeing this life as a passage on the way to heaven. The opening asks that the soul be reminded, when the destination seems forgotten, that this is just a hallway on the way home, resting on the promise of a love unending and looking to Jesus as never failing. The pre-chorus anticipates arriving where there is no hurt or pain and endless praise is poured out with angels and saints.
The chorus repeats Holy, Holy to the Lord Almighty, and a later section pictures nothing between the worshiper and the grandeur of heaven. A closing section hears God saying that the race has been completed and the place promised has been prepared. The themes follow Hebrews 11:13-16 on strangers seeking a better country, John 14:2-3 on a prepared place, Revelation 4:8 and 21:4, and 2 Timothy 4:7 on finishing the race.
