Hulvey + Lecrae - Walk Lyrics
Lyrics
He is on my side
Jesus, He walks with me
Get back to the business, I feel the Spirit moving through the city
I got the light shining, come get it
Walking with Christ, moving where it's gritty
Walking with Christ, moving where it's gritty
I feel the Spirit moving through the city
I see the people tryna bring it with me
We got the light tell 'em "come and get it", yeah
Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk (Ayy, ayy, ayy)
He is on my side
Jesus, He walks with me
I walk
Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk
He is on my side
Jesus, He walks with me
We walk
Woah
I was chasing my glory then fell asleep
Woke me up, and told me to go feed the sheep
Send me deep in the streets just to bring 'em peace
Yeah, we be where them blickies be bussin'
Where they end your life with no discussion
But as soon as they see the Light rushin'
They know that the Lord walking with us, no bluffing
People say that I'm fake, I'm like "Okay
Do you walk in the Light, or are you throwing shade?"
116 on my skin, I got no shame
We was preaching about Jesus before fame
Brrrat, did that, on my side, yeah, He been there
Asked the devil where my sins at
On the cross 'cause He pinned that
Big throne where He sits at
Death hit Him and He hit back
Resurrected, yeah, that's big facts
Told us hold it down 'til He get back (Back)
Get back to the business, I feel the Spirit moving through the city
He is on my side
I got the light shining, come get it
Jesus, He walks with me
Walking with Christ, moving where it's gritty
Walking with Christ, moving where it's gritty
He is on my side
I feel the Spirit moving through the city
Jesus, He walks with me
I see the people tryna bring it with me
We got the light tell 'em "come and get it", yeah
Yeah, walk with me (With me)
Step in the scene with the flock
Had to keep it so steady, don't fall for the false
Had to cut out the session, He got it to crop
Hold up, spiritual weapons when miracles happen
I'm never surprised 'cause of God
They say I'm no Hannah Montana, I ain't switching my banner
Like David we slinging the rock (The rock)
We kickin' this beat in, boy I serve Yeshua
Even if it means I'm bleeding (Means I'm bleeding)
Come kill my flesh, my soul still breathing
Speak through me
Yeah, yeah, this heart keep beating (Beating)
These lungs keep singing (Singing)
Come and step into the kingdom (Yeah)
For the ones mistreated (Yeah)
'Til the day we see Him (Yeah)
This feel like the moment we seek and the day we can see Him
To want to get freedom to walk
Walk, wa-walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk
He is on my side
Jesus, He walks with me
I walk
Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk
He is on my side
Jesus, He walks with me
We walk
Get back to the business, I feel the Spirit moving through the city
He is on my side
I got the light shining come get it
Jesus, He walks with me
Walking with Christ, moving where it's gritty
Walking with Christ, moving where it's gritty
He is on my side
I feel the Spirit moving through the city
Jesus, He walks with me
I see the people tryna bring it with me
We got the light tell 'em "come and get it", yeah
Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk
He is on my side
Jesus, He walks with me
I walk
Walk, wa-walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk
He is on my side
Jesus, He walks with me
We walk

Hulvey, Lecrae - WALK (Official Live Video)
Meaning & Inspiration
Hulvey and Lecrae want to convince me that "He is on my side." It’s the kind of line that gets shouted over a beat in a crowded room, where the bass is hitting your chest and the adrenaline makes everything feel like a certainty. But standing here, away from the speakers, I find myself weighing that claim against a Tuesday morning when the bank account is low or the grief feels like a physical weight in the throat.
It’s easy to talk about Jesus walking where it’s "gritty" when you’re in a booth or on a stage. But does He walk in the quiet, suffocating hours? Does He walk with the person waiting for a pathology report, or the one staring at a severance letter?
Lecrae spits, "Death hit Him and He hit back / Resurrected, yeah, that's big facts." It’s an aggressive, confident way to frame the resurrection—like a heavyweight boxing match. And honestly, I want that to be true. I want to believe that the grave didn’t have the final word. But when you’re actually sitting in the middle of a disaster, "big facts" feels like a bumper sticker. It feels like Cheap Grace if we don’t acknowledge that sometimes, while God might be "walking," the path still leads through actual, stinging loss.
Psalm 23 is the original source material for this whole "He walks with me" concept. David writes about the valley of the shadow of death, and he doesn't say the valley disappears. He doesn't say the shadow isn't dark. He just says, "I will fear no evil, for You are with me."
The difference is everything.
Hulvey and Lecrae seem to lean into the swagger, the "light shining," the defiance. It’s high energy. But faith isn't always a victory lap; sometimes it’s just dragging your feet forward because you’re too exhausted to do anything else. If Jesus is really walking with us, He’s walking through our trembling, our bad decisions, and our moments of absolute, godless silence.
I’m not sold on the idea that walking with Christ is always "moving where it’s gritty" in the way they describe—sometimes it’s just staying put when you want to run away. I appreciate the hustle in these lyrics, but I hope they know that when the music stops and the "business" of the city fades out, the only thing that holds up is the cold, hard reality of the cross—not as a trophy, but as a place where someone actually suffered.
If He’s on my side, He better be there when I’m not shining, when I’m not winning, and when I have nothing left to say. Anything less than that is just noise.
