Hillsong UNITED - Heart Of Worship - all about You Jesus Lyrics

Lyrics

when the music fades all is stripped away and i simply come longing just to bring something that's of worth that will bless your heart i bring you more than a song for a song in itself is not what you have required you search much deeper within through the way things appear you're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship and it's all about you It's all about you, Jesus I'm sorry Lord for the thing i've made it when it's all about you it's all about you, Jesus

King of endless worth no one could express how much you deserve though i'm weak and poor all i have is yours every single breath

I'm coming back to the heart of worship and it's all about you It's all about you, Jesus I'm sorry Lord for the thing i've made it when it's all about you it's all about you, Jesus

Meaning & Inspiration

When Matt Redman first penned these words, eventually finding a home in the catalog of Hillsong United, he caught a glimpse of the dangerous drift that happens in our pews. We often mistake the production for the presence, forgetting that God is not a fan of our rehearsed performances if our internal posture is detached. When the lyrics claim that a song is not what the Lord requires, they strike at the very root of the Old Testament prophetic rebuke found in Isaiah 1:11, where God declares his disdain for ritualistic sacrifice lacking the devotion of a broken spirit. The text cuts through the noise of our light shows and professional arrangements to ask the uncomfortable question: who are we actually performing for?

The theology here is firmly rooted in the idea that God peers behind our external veneer. Hebrews 4:12 tells us the Word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart, and that is exactly the focus of these lyrics. When we offer up our worship, we aren't uploading a file to heaven to be graded on quality or technical skill; we are standing exposed before a King who values the condition of our inner man far more than the melody we carry. Repentance is the engine driving this prayer. Confessing that we have made worship about ourselves—our preferences, our comfort, and our ego—is the only way to clear the debris that blocks our view of the Savior.

Recognizing Jesus as the King of endless worth forces us to confront our own poverty. Even in our weakness, we offer our lives as a living sacrifice, just as Romans 12:1 commands. We bring our simple, breath-filled lives because that is the only currency the King accepts. It is a posture of total surrender, acknowledging that every pulse in our veins belongs to the One who sustained us before we even thought to sing his name. We stop trying to impress a holy God and start focusing on the simple, terrifying, and glorious reality that he is the beginning and the end of our adoration. True worship is not a polished event to be enjoyed from the front row, but a desperate, singular focus on the crucified and risen Christ who deserves every scrap of our attention until there is nothing left but him.
