Meaning & Inspiration
“Satisfied (Hallelujah, I Have Found Him)” as sung by the Gaither Vocal Band is a Southern gospel hymn of thirst met. The verses describe a life of longing for a drink from some clear spring, feeding on husks, and seeking riches only to find that the dust of the world mocks the soul’s cry.
The refrain gives the answer: “Hallelujah, I have found Him whom my soul so long has craved. Jesus satisfies my longings, through His blood I now am saved.” The last verse names Him as a well of water ever springing, bread of life rich and free, and untold wealth that never fails.
The imagery is close to John 4:14, John 6:35 and Isaiah 55:1-2, on living water, the bread of life and spending on what does not satisfy. Luke 15:16 also recalls the husks eaten by the prodigal son. The hymn is warm, direct and suited to group singing.
