For All Seasons - Higher Lyrics
Lyrics
You are maker of all, You are made by none
Even when the tide's rising, I'm deep in Your love
You remain in control, with a steady hand
Even when the lies of this life start to make sense
Pre-Chorus
So be my guiding light
When things are black and white
I'll trust in who You are
In who You are
Chorus
Your ways are higher, Your ways are higher
Than all of my ways, far beyond what I can see
You're higher, Your ways are higher
For now and always, far beyond what I can see
You're higher
You have made Yourself known, through the eyes of faith
The invisible is visible on the darkest of days
There's no place You won't go, nothing out of reach
When I make mistakes or walk away, You never leave me
So be my guiding light
When things are black and white
I'll trust in who You are
In who You are
Your ways are higher, Your ways are higher
Than all of my ways, far beyond what I can see
You're higher, Your ways are higher
For now and always, far beyond what I can see
You're higher, You're higher, You're higher
Far beyond what I can see
You're higher
[Bridge]
So be my guiding light
(so be my guiding light)
When things are black and white
(when things are black and white)
I'll trust in who You are
(I'll trust in who You are)
In who You are (in who You are)
Your ways are higher, Your ways are higher
Than all of my ways, far beyond what I can see
You're higher, Your ways are higher
For now and always, far beyond what I can see
You're higher, You're higher, You're higher
Far beyond what I can see
You're higher, You're higher, You're higher
Far beyond what I can see
You're higher

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been sitting here thinking about that line, "You are maker of all, You are made by none," and it honestly stops me in my tracks. It’s that old truth from Isaiah, that God’s thoughts aren't our thoughts, and His ways are just miles above ours. It’s hard to wrap my head around a God who exists outside of time while I’m constantly tripped up by the "lies of this life" like the lyrics say. We act like we have it figured out, but when things get dark or confusing, I realize I’m just grasping at shadows. It feels good to sing that He’s in control with a steady hand, almost like I need to be convinced of that every single morning.
There’s this part about how He never leaves even when we walk away, and it makes me wonder if I really understand grace. It feels right—like that feeling of the shepherd leaving the ninety-nine—but sometimes I worry I make it sound too easy, like I can just wander off and He’s always just waiting there like a backup plan. Is that how it works? The song hits on the idea that the invisible becomes visible to the eyes of faith, which sounds like Hebrews, but it makes me ask myself if I’m actually looking for Him or just looking for relief. It’s comforting to believe that there’s no place He won’t go to reach us, but that’s a heavy thing to carry, knowing I’m the one prone to drift while He stays put. I guess I’m still trying to figure out if I’m resting in His sovereignty or just using these words to ignore the fact that His ways really are confusing sometimes.
