Meaning & Inspiration
“Can I Just Stay Here” by Cameron Moder is a quiet love song to God. The first verse says the singer has tasted and seen, is captivated by glory, and finds his longing satisfied at God’s feet. The chorus asks the question of the title, whether he can stay and pour his love out, and repeats that he is in love and in awe.
The second verse gives the reason for being able to come close: the blood of Jesus has brought him in, tore the veil and draws him near. The singer says he now belongs to God and God to him, and calls Him his delight. The bridge repeats that God is better than anything the world could give, and ends with the line, “I’m undone by You.”
The lines are close to Psalm 34:8, Hebrews 10:19-20 and Song of Solomon 2:16, on tasting that the Lord is good, the new way through the veil and belonging to one another. The song is slow and devotional.
