Matt Redman - 10,000 reasons (Bless The Lord) Lyrics

Lyrics

Bless the Lord oh my soul Oh my soul Worship His Holy name Sing like never before Oh my soul I'll worship Your Holy name

The sun comes up It's a new day dawning It's time to sing Your song again Whatever may pass And whatever lies before me Let me be singing When the evening comes

Bless the Lord oh my soul Oh my soul Worship His Holy name Sing like never before Oh my soul I'll worship Your Holy name

You're rich in love And You're slow to anger Your name is great And Your heart is kind For all Your goodness I will keep on singing Ten thousand reasons For my heart to find

Bless the Lord oh my soul Oh my soul Worship His Holy name Sing like never before Oh my soul I'll worship Your Holy name

And on that day When my strength is failing The end draws near And my time has come Still my soul will Sing Your praise unending Ten thousand years And then forevermore Forevermore

Bless the Lord oh my soul Oh my soul Worship His Holy name Sing like never before Oh my soul I'll worship Your Holy name

Bless the Lord oh my soul Oh my soul Worship His Holy name Sing like never before Oh my soul I'll worship Your Holy name Yes I'll worship Your Holy name Lord I'll worship Your Holy name

Meaning & Inspiration

I was listening to 10,000 Reasons, from that 2011 album, and I keep coming back to how much it feels like just reciting the Psalms back to God. It starts with "Bless the Lord, O my soul," which is straight out of Psalm 103. It’s funny because I usually read that as David talking to himself, telling his own spirit to get in line and praise God when things are tough. When Matt Redman sings it, it feels like that same struggle—trying to fix your eyes on what’s true when the day feels long.

There’s that line, "slow to anger and rich in love," and again, that’s exactly how God described Himself to Moses in Exodus. It’s not just a nice lyric. It’s grounded in the idea that if God wasn't that way, we’d be in massive trouble. I find myself wondering if I actually believe that on my worst days, or if I just like the melody.

The part about "when my strength is failing" hits me different lately. It’s honest about the end of life, which most songs try to avoid. It’s leaning on the idea that our praise doesn't depend on how well we’re doing physically or emotionally, but on who He is. Even when the "time has come," the song claims the soul keeps singing. I guess I’m still wrestling with whether I’m capable of that kind of endurance. Can a person really just keep singing when everything else is falling away, or is that just something we hope we’ll be able to do when we finally get there? It’s a bit unsettling to think about, really.
