About Twila Paris
Twila Paris was born on December 28, 1958, in Fort Worth, Texas, and has built a career as a contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, pianist, and author. The daughter of Oren Paris II, a minister and founder of Youth With A Mission ministries and Ecclesia College, she grew up immersed in a life of faith and ministry. She would go on to become a significant voice in the modern praise and worship movement.
Her recording career began with the release of her first full-length album, Knowin’ You’re Around, in 1981. Over time, Paris became known for writing songs that have been widely sung in congregations around the world, including “He Is Exalted,” “We Will Glorify,” “Lamb of God,” “We Bow Down,” “God Is in Control,” and “How Beautiful.” Another notable piece from her catalog is “The Warrior Is a Child,” a song that resonated deeply with listeners.
Paris’s contributions have been recognized with multiple industry honors. She was named Gospel Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year for three consecutive years (1993–1995). Her album Sanctuary won the GMA Dove Award for Praise and Worship Album of the Year in 1992, and her song “God Is in Control” won the Dove Award for Song of the Year in 1995. She received three American Songwriter Awards and the ASCAP Golden Note Award. In 2015, she was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.
In addition to her music, Paris has authored several books, including In This Sanctuary: An Invitation to Worship the Savior (1992) and Perennial: Meditations for Seasons of Life (1998). She has also served as a spokesperson for the charity World Vision.
