Tree63 is a South African rock band formed in Durban in 1996. Originally named "Tree," the group changed its name to Tree63 in 2000 due to a naming conflict with an American band, with "63" drawn from the title of their second album, which referenced Psalm 63. Founding member John Ellis has served as the band’s lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter since its inception, and the band’s music blends rock with worship influences.
Tree63 released several albums over its initial run from 1996 to 2009, including 63, Tree63, The Life and Times of Absolute Truth, The Answer to the Question, I Stand for You: Worship Volume One, Sunday!, and Land. Their self-titled album Tree63 earned the GMA Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year in 2001, and the song "Blessed Be Your Name" was recognized as a top Adult Contemporary Christian song of 2004 by Billboard.
The band experienced a brief reunion from 2014 to 2015 and then relaunched in 2024 with a lineup that includes John Ellis, Angus Warden, and Deon Knipe. Throughout its history, Tree63 has been known for combining rock energy with worship music.
