Shari Martin

Shari Martin (1970–2024) was a Kenyan gospel musician who rose to prominence in the 1990s. Before turning to music full time, he worked as a professional chef in the hospitality industry. His musical career began in the late 1980s when he recorded “Tangazo La Ajabu” with the Tana Gospel Singers.

Martin became widely known for his 1998 hit “Rafiki Pesa,” a song that addressed themes of material wealth and social challenges. His catalog, which includes songs such as “Yesu Ndio Commando,” “Wanadamu Ni Waongo” (2000), and “Mambo Ya Dunia” (2002), often explored themes of integrity, worldly temptations, and spiritual guidance.

Shari Martin passed away on August 2, 2024, at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi due to complications from pneumonia.
