About Rebecca St. James
Rebecca St. James (born Rebecca Jean Smallbone) is an Australian-American contemporary Christian singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on July 26, 1977, in Sydney, Australia, and moved to the United States with her family in 1991. She began performing in Australia in the late 1980s and released her first full-length studio album in 1991. After signing with ForeFront Records in 1993, she released her major label debut the following year.
St. James released several acclaimed albums, including God (1996) and Pray (1998). She won a Grammy Award in 1999 for Best Rock Gospel Album for Pray. Both God and Pray are RIAA-certified Gold. She went on to release Transform (2000), Worship God (2002), and later Kingdom Come (2022). Her catalog includes well-known songs such as “Wait for Me,” “Battle Is the Lord’s,” and “Praise.” Over her career, she has earned nine #1 Christian radio singles.
Beyond music, St. James has authored over a dozen books, including Wait for Me and Pure. She has also appeared in several films, such as Sarah’s Choice and A Strange Brand of Happy. She serves as a resident worship leader at First Dallas church in Texas. Her family’s story is featured in the 2024 film Unsung Hero, a movie that highlights her musical background alongside her brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, who form the duo for KING & COUNTRY.
