About Mmatema
Mmatema Moremi, a South African gospel singer and songwriter, was born on 26 February 1992 in Zebediela, Limpopo. She first gained national attention as the runner-up on the eleventh season of Idols South Africa in 2015. Her educational background includes a B-Tech degree in Applied Languages and Linguistics from the Tshwane University of Technology, where she also sang as a member of the Tshwane Gospel Choir.
After her reality-show breakthrough, Mmatema established her own record label, Mmatema Moremi Media Productions, to independently pursue her gospel music career. She made history in 2016 as the first Idols SA contestant to headline a one-woman show at the South African State Theatre’s Opera Theatre. Her recorded work includes the albums Love. Praise. Worship. and Heart of Gratitude, along with singles such as “Because of You,” “Yahweh,” “Ke Lerato,” and “My Time Is Now!” She also contributed the song “Make a Way” to the compilation Spirit of Praise 7.
Beyond music, Mmatema has built a television career. She hosted the gospel music program Gospel Unplugged on SABC 1, a show that won Best Gospel Show at the 11th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards in 2018. She has also taken on acting roles, including a part in the drama series Bone of My Bones. Through her label, live performances, and television presence, Mmatema continues to follow her calling in gospel music while expanding her reach across the South African entertainment industry.
