About Matt Boswell
Matt Boswell is a hymn writer, worship leader, and the founding lead pastor of The Trails Church in North Texas. He also serves as a Professor of Worship Ministries at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Boswell holds a Ph.D. in Christian Worship from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, grounding his ministry in both pastoral practice and academic study.
Boswell began writing songs and leading music in church settings as a teenager. He is the founder of Doxology & Theology, a ministry focused on equipping worship leaders with gospel-centered resources. He has also authored books including Doxology and Theology: How the Gospel Forms the Worship Leader and What If I Don't Like My Church's Music?, further extending his teaching role beyond the classroom and pulpit.
In his songwriting, Boswell has collaborated frequently with Matt Papa. Their co-written songs include “His Mercy Is More,” “Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery,” “Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor,” “Christ Our Hope in Life and Death,” “Psalm 150 (Praise The Lord),” “Almost Home,” and “Sing We The Song Of Emmanuel (Gloria).” These works have become part of congregational worship in many churches.
Boswell is married to Jamie, and they have four children. His work as a pastor, professor, and songwriter reflects a commitment to serving the local church through Christ-centered worship and theological depth.
