About Martin Smith
Martin James Smith was born on July 6, 1970, in England. He began his career working as a sound engineer at ICC studios in Eastbourne before pursuing music full-time. In 1992, he co-founded The Cutting Edge Band, which later became known as Delirious?. Smith served as the band’s frontman for 17 years, until the group disbanded in 2009. A near-fatal car accident in 1995 influenced his decision to commit fully to music ministry.
As a worship songwriter, Smith recorded songs that became widely sung in church settings, including “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever,” “Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?,” “History Maker,” and “Majesty (Here I Am).” Following Delirious?, he released a series of solo projects: the EP series God’s Great Dance Floor: Movements One through Four, the albums God’s Great Dance Floor Step 01 and God’s Great Dance Floor Step 02, and the album Dancing in the Fire. He also published his autobiography, Delirious: The Autobiography of Martin Smith, in 2011.
Smith is married to Anna Smith, and they have six children. He is a member of St. Peter’s Church in Brighton, England. Together with his wife, he co-founded CompassionArt, a charity focused on using creative arts to support those in need.
