The Maranatha Singers

The Maranatha! Singers are the in-house choir for the Christian praise and worship label Maranatha! Music. Rather than being a fixed ensemble, the name functions as a brand for various vocalists and musicians assembled for specific recording projects under the label.

Maranatha! Music was founded in 1971 by Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel to promote "Jesus Music," and the label and its associated ensembles are historically connected to the "Jesus Movement" of the early 1970s. The choir is well known for the long-running Praise series, which began with Praise 1: The Praise Album in 1974. This was followed by albums such as Praise 2: Open Our Eyes (1976), Praise 3: Behold, Bless Ye the Lord (1979), Praise 6: You Are My Hiding Place (1982), and Praise 7: The Lord Reigns (1985). The series concluded its initial run with Praise 20: Who Is Like the Lord in 1999.

The group's recordings have featured collaborations with various Christian artists, including Terry Clark and Morris Chapman. Their catalog also includes songs such as "The Sweetest Name of All" and "In His Time." Through its Praise series and recordings, the Maranatha! Singers helped establish the sound of contemporary worship within the broader Christian music landscape.
