About Mali Music
Mali Music is the professional stage name of American singer-songwriter and record producer Kortney Jamaal Pollard, a Christian and gospel artist known for blending gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. Born on January 12, 1988, in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised in Savannah, Georgia, he began playing piano at age five and was active in his church’s music ministry by age eleven. His early independent albums, The Coming (2008) and The 2econd Coming (2009), introduced him as an inspirational artist, and in 2011 he became the first artist of that kind to be featured in BET’s “Music Matters” series.
Pollard signed with RCA Records and released his major-label debut album, Mali Is..., in 2014. The album earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album in 2015. He followed with The Transition of Mali (2017) and The Book of Mali (2020). In 2020, he collaborated with Jonathan McReynolds on the song “Movin’ On,” which won a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance/Song in 2021. Earlier, he had won a GMA Dove Award for Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year in 2013 for “Tell the World” with Lecrae.
Beyond music, Pollard played the role of Jesus in the 2018 film Revival!. He is also the founder of the independent label K Approved Enterprises. In 2023, he released the album God Be Praised, continuing his work as an artist rooted in gospel and inspirational music.
