About Leigh Nash
Leigh Nash is widely recognized as the lead vocalist of the Christian alternative rock band Sixpence None the Richer and has also built a career as a solo artist. Born Leigh Anne Bingham Nash on June 27, 1976, in New Braunfels, Texas, she began performing country music in local venues at age twelve. In the early 1990s, she met guitarist Matt Slocum at a church retreat, and together they formed Sixpence None the Richer. The band’s name was inspired by a line from C.S. Lewis’s book Mere Christianity.
With Sixpence None the Richer, Nash helped create a string of notable releases, including their 1994 album The Fatherless & the Widow. The band achieved widespread attention with the 1999 single “Kiss Me,” followed by “There She Goes” and “Need to Be Next to You” in 2000. In 1999, Sixpence None the Richer received multiple Dove Awards, including Best Artist of the Year, and the album This Beautiful Mess won a Dove Award for Best Album. Nash also earned Grammy Award nominations: one for Best Rock Gospel Album in 1998 and another for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1999.
Nash launched her solo career with the album Blue on Blue in 2006. She later became a member of the musical collective Fauxliage. In 2011, she released Hymns and Sacred Songs, a collection that reflected her faith and musical roots. Over the years, she has collaborated with artists including CeCe Winans and Matt Maher. Her solo work continued with the album The State I’m In in 2015 and the EP The Tide, Vol. 1 in 2023.
