About Kim Burrell
Kim Burrell is a gospel singer, songwriter, and pastor whose career has bridged traditional gospel, jazz, and contemporary worship. Born Kimberly Jean Burrell on August 26, 1972, in Houston, Texas, she was raised in the Church of God in Christ, the daughter of a pastor and an evangelist singer. She began singing with the Greater Emmanuel COGIC Choir and the GMWA Youth Mass Choir, laying a foundation for her life in ministry and music.
Burrell released her first independent album, Try Me Again, in 1995. She signed with Tommy Boy Gospel and followed with Everlasting Life in 1998. Her catalog also includes the live recording Live In Concert (2001), the studio release No Ways Tired (2009), and The Love Album (2011), which features the song “Sweeter.” The latter won a Dove Award for Urban Recorded Song of the Year in 2012. Over the years, Burrell has earned a Stellar Award and been nominated for a Grammy Award, reflecting the reach of her vocal ministry.
In addition to recording, Burrell serves as a pastor and founder of Love & Liberty Fellowship Church. She also hosts the annual Ephesians 4 conference, a workshop designed to mentor performing artists. Her collaborations have spanned gospel and secular music, including work with Stevie Wonder, Harry Connick Jr., Whitney Houston, and the 2016 single “I See a Victory” with Pharrell Williams. Through her albums, church leadership, and conference ministry, Kim Burrell has remained a dedicated voice in gospel music.
