About Keith Wonderboy Johnson

Keith Lamar Johnson (1972–2022), known to the gospel music world as “Wonderboy,” was an American gospel singer-songwriter recognized for his work in quartet music. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he received the nickname “Wonderboy” at age five because of his vocal ability. In his youth, he sang with the Boys Choir of Harlem and his father’s quartet group, The Spiritual Voices. He began his professional solo music career in 1998 with the release of his album Through the Storm. Throughout his career, he was frequently associated with The Spiritual Voices as his backing group.

Over the course of his recording career, Johnson released 14 albums on labels including World Wide Gospel, Verity, and Blacksmoke Records. Eleven of his albums charted on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart. His catalog includes the albums Through the Storm (1998), Live and Alive (2000), Send a Revival (2002), and New Season (2004), as well as songs such as “Let Go and Let God Have His Way,” “Be Right,” “Hide Behind the Mountain,” and “I Wouldn’t Know You” (a collaboration with James Fortune and FIYA).

Johnson’s work earned him six Stellar Awards and two Dove Award nominations. His single “Let Go, Let God” won BMI’s Most Played Song of the Year Award in 2005. He passed away on September 30, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia.
