About Jordan Smith
Jordan Smith is a singer-songwriter whose music has roots in the gospel tradition. Born Jordan Mackenzie Smith on November 4, 1993, in Whitley County, Kentucky, he was raised singing in the church choir at the House of Mercy in Wallins Creek. He later attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he was a member of the Lee University Singers.
Smith gained national attention in 2015 as the winner of season 9 of the singing competition The Voice. He is recognized as the highest-selling artist to have participated on the show. Following his win, he became the first artist to hold the top two positions concurrently on Billboard’s Christian Songs chart. In 2018, he wrote the song “Ashes,” which was recorded by Celine Dion for the Deadpool 2 soundtrack.
Smith represented Kentucky in the American Song Contest in 2022, finishing in third place with his original song “Sparrow.” He has been honored as a Kentucky Colonel and named “Kentuckian of the Year.” His releases include the albums Something Beautiful (2016), ’Tis the Season (2016), Only Love (2018), and The People’s Hymnal (2025), the last of which was released on Gaither Music Group.
