Jaci Velasquez is a singer, songwriter, and actress who has built a career in contemporary Christian music while also achieving crossover success in the Latin pop market. She performs in both English and Spanish.
Born on October 15, 1979, in Houston, Texas, Velasquez grew up in an evangelical church. At age nine, she began traveling with her father, a singing evangelist, which introduced her to ministry and music from an early age. Her national debut album, Heavenly Place, was released in 1996. With that record, she became the first solo artist in Christian music history to reach gold status with a debut album.
Over the years, Velasquez has released numerous albums in both English and Spanish, including Llegar a Ti, Mi Corazón, Unspoken, Beauty Has Grace, Diamond, and Trust. Her catalog includes the well-known song “On My Knees.” Beyond recording, she co-hosted a syndicated morning radio program from 2010 to 2016 and has appeared in several films and authored books.
Velasquez has received multiple Dove Awards, including New Artist of the Year in 1997 and Female Vocalist of the Year. She also earned a Latin Billboard Music Award in 2002 for the album Mi Corazón. She has been nominated for three Grammy Awards and multiple Latin Grammy Awards, and she has achieved sixteen No. 1 radio hits over the course of her career.
