About Gordon Mote
Gordon Mote is a Christian country and Southern gospel singer, pianist, and worship leader. Born Gordon James Mote on October 25, 1970, in Gadsden, Alabama, he has been blind since birth. He graduated with honors from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, with a degree in music. Shortly after graduation, he joined the band of country artist Lee Greenwood.
Mote became a highly sought-after studio musician, playing on recordings for artists such as Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, and Carrie Underwood. He has also served as a pianist for the Gaither Homecoming Tour and is an active worship leader in his home church. He has released numerous solo albums blending country, pop, and gospel influences, including Don't Let Me Miss the Glory (2007), Hymns and Songs of Inspiration (2015), Love Love Love (2018), and Where You Lead Me (2023). His catalog includes songs such as “Mercy Walked In,” “I Can’t Even Walk (Without You Holding My Hand),” “Meanwhile Back at the Cross” featuring Voices of Lee, and “Only Jesus Can Heal This Hurting World.”
Mote’s work has earned him several honors. He is a three-time Academy of Country Music Award winner for Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year (2009, 2011, 2020). In 2019, he won a GMA Dove Award for Southern Gospel Album of the Year as co-producer for Triumphant Quartet’s Yes. He has also received two Grammy Award nominations for Best Roots Gospel Album, for Hymns and Songs of Inspiration and Love Love Love. In addition, Jacksonville State University awarded him an honorary Doctorate of Letters.
