Gloria Gaither

Gloria Gaither is a Christian singer-songwriter, author, and speaker known for her extensive work in gospel music and the Gaither Homecoming series. Born Gloria Lee Sickal on March 4, 1942, she is married to Bill Gaither, and together they have written more than 700 songs. She performed, traveled, and recorded with the Bill Gaither Trio from 1965 through 1991.

Gaither holds a Master of Arts degree in British and American Literature from Ball State University. Before focusing fully on music ministry, she was an educator, teaching French and English at Alexandria Monroe High School in Indiana. She has written more than 40 books for adults and children, and she served as a scriptwriter and narrator for the Gaither Homecoming series of television broadcasts and recordings.

Throughout her career, Gaither has been part of a number of well-known songs in gospel music, including “Because He Lives,” “He Touched Me,” “The King Is Coming,” “Something Beautiful,” “I Am a Promise,” “It Is Finished,” “Sinner Saved by Grace,” and “Then Came the Morning.” In 2000, she and Bill Gaither were named “Christian Songwriters of the Century” by ASCAP. She has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and she is a recipient of multiple Grammy Awards and more than 40 GMA Dove Awards, all collectively with Bill Gaither. She has also received honorary doctorates from eight universities.
