About Chris Rice
Chris Rice is an American singer-songwriter in contemporary Christian music, born in Clinton, Maryland. He began his career in the mid-1980s as an itinerant speaker and musician, performing at youth and college conferences and camps. In 1996, Rice signed with Rocketown Records as the label’s first artist, and his debut album, Deep Enough to Dream, was released the following year. He is known for writing the Christmas song "Welcome to Our World," which has been recorded by artists including Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant.
Rice followed his debut with a series of albums: Past the Edges (1998), Smell the Color 9 (2000), Run the Earth... Watch the Sky (2003), Amusing (2005), and Peace Like a River: The Hymns Project (2006). His work earned him recognition including a 1999 GMA Dove Award for Male Vocalist of the Year and a 1999 Dove Award for Special Event Album of the Year for Exodus. He was also named Christian Songwriter of the Year by American Songwriter magazine in 1995. Rice released six albums between 1996 and 2007 before entering a long-term hiatus.
He returned to music in 2019 to release a joint album with Andrew Ripp.
In 2022, an independent investigation found allegations of sexual assault against a minor, occurring between 1995 and 2003, to be credible.
