About Carman
Carman Domenic Licciardello (1956–2021) was an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, and evangelist. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, he began his musical career playing drums in his mother's band. After attending an Andraé Crouch concert, he became a born-again Christian and dedicated his career to evangelism. He went on to establish the nonprofit organizations Carman Ministries and Carman World Outreach.
Known for his "story songs" and large-scale, crusade-style concert events, Carman became a pioneering figure in Christian music. He holds the record for the largest single Christian concert in history, with over 80,000 attendees in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He also served as a television host for the Trinity Broadcasting Network and its program Praise the Lord.
Over his career, Carman released numerous albums, including God's Not Finished with Me (1980), Sunday's on the Way (1983), The Champion (1985), Revival in the Land (1989), Addicted to Jesus (1992), The Standard (1993), R.I.O.T. (Righteous Invasion of Truth) (1995), and No Plan B (2014). His music found widespread commercial success; he sold over ten million records and received seven Dove Awards. He was named Billboard Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year in 1990, 1992, and 1995, and was nominated for four Grammy Awards. In 2018, he was inducted into the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and in 2006 he received the House of Hope Humanitarian Award.
In 2013, Carman was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and later returned to touring after his cancer went into remission. He passed away on February 16, 2021, following complications from surgery, leaving behind a legacy shaped by his music and evangelistic ministry.
