About Brian Doerksen
Brian Robert Doerksen, a Canadian Christian singer-songwriter, worship leader, and pastor, was born in 1965 and is from Abbotsford, British Columbia. He served as a worship pastor at the Langley Vineyard Christian Fellowship in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In the late 1990s he mentored worship leaders and songwriters in the Vineyard Churches of the UK and Ireland. Doerksen is also a recording artist, author, and conference speaker.
Doerksen’s songwriting catalog includes “Refiner’s Fire” (1990), “Come Now is the Time to Worship” (1998), “Hungry” (1999), “Faithful One” (2002), “Hope of the Nations” (2003), “Today” (2004), “Holy God” (2006), and “Grateful” (2018). His album Holy God received a JUNO Award for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year in 2008. He earned a Gospel Music Association (USA) International Award in 2003 and multiple GMA Canada Covenant Awards, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year in 2007. In 2014 he was honored with the GMA Canada Covenant Award for Lifetime Achievement.
In 2006 Doerksen helped plant a church called The Bridge in Abbotsford, where he served as a teaching and worship arts pastor. He later directed a “Music & Worship Arts” program at Prairie College in Alberta, Canada. He also founded the “Unlocking Your Songs” songwriting instruction program. Doerksen has been married to his wife, Joyce, for over 35 years, and they have six children.
