About Bloodgood

Bloodgood was an American Christian metal band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1983. The group was founded by bassist Michael Bloodgood and vocalist Les Carlsen, and it quickly became known for its theatrical performances and evangelistic lyrics centered on the message of Jesus Christ. By 1988, Bloodgood was recognized as one of the four largest Christian metal acts alongside Barren Cross, Leviticus, and Whitecross.

Michael Bloodgood also served as a senior pastor at Calvary Chapel in Redmond, Washington, intertwining his ministry with the band’s work. Bloodgood’s early catalog included the 1985 demo Metal Missionaries, followed by the albums Bloodgood (1986), Detonation (1987), Rock in a Hard Place (1988), and Out of the Darkness (1989). Among their songs from this period are “Crucify” and “Alone in Suicide.” The band officially disbanded in 1994 but reformed in 2006. Their final album, Dangerously Close, was released in 2013. Bloodgood concluded in 2022 following the death of Michael Bloodgood.

The group’s work continued to be recognized after its heyday. Detonation was ranked No. 23 on HM Magazine’s Top 100 Christian Rock Albums of All Time and No. 8 on Heaven’s Metal fanzine’s Top 100 Christian Metal Albums of All-Time list. In 2010, Bloodgood was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame, cementing its place in the history of Christian rock and metal.
