Beau Williams

Beau Williams is a gospel singer and minister of the Gospel. He was born on January 6, 1950, in Houston, Texas, the son of a Baptist preacher and choir director. He began performing as a teenager, appearing on a live television show and recording under the name “Bobo Mr Soul.” He gained national attention in 1984 by competing on the television talent show Star Search, where he defeated the reigning champion, Sam Harris. In the early 1980s he recorded R&B albums for Capitol Records, including Beau Williams (1982), Stay with Me (1983), Bodacious! (1984), and No More Tears (1986).

In the late 1980s, Williams transitioned to gospel music and signed with Light Records. His 1989 gospel album, Wonderful, reached number two on the Billboard Gospel charts and remained in the top ten for fifty-eight consecutive weeks. The project also earned him a Dove Award for Song of the Year. He has received nominations for the Grammy, Stellar, and James Cleveland Awards.

Williams is an ordained minister and operates Beau Williams Ministries. He has also served as an anthem singer for professional sports teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Rockets. His later gospel releases include The Best of Beau Williams (1995), They Need to Know (1996), The Greatest Gift (2002), Visions (2005), and the single “God Kept Me” (2019).
