About Austin French

Austin French is a contemporary Christian musician and songwriter who has balanced a calling to pastoral ministry with a growing national music career. Born Austin Bryan French on February 13, 1994, in Cordele, Georgia, he first gained widespread attention as a runner-up on the first season of the ABC television show Rising Star in 2014. Before that television exposure, French was serving as a full-time worship pastor at Journey Church in Tifton, Georgia. He later held a similar role as worship pastor at The Avenue Church in Delray Beach, Florida, before signing a record deal with Fair Trade Services.

His debut album, Wide Open, was released in 2018. The project peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and introduced listeners to French’s earnest, personal songwriting. His music often explores themes of faith, redemption, and the transformative power of God’s love. Songs in his catalog include “Freedom Hymn,” “Wide Open,” “Why God,” “Born Again,” “Good Feeling,” “Wake Up Sleeper,” “Rest For Your Soul,” and “Jesus Can.”

“Freedom Hymn” became French’s breakout radio single. It peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and No. 7 on the Billboard Christian Airplay chart, and it earned a BMI Christian Music Award. The song’s success helped establish French as a voice in contemporary worship music while staying rooted in the same ministry-minded approach he developed as a worship pastor.
