The Celebration Choir - Follow Follow I Will Follow Jesus Lyrics
Lyrics
Down in the valley with my Savior I will go,
Where the flowers are blooming and the sweet waters flow;
Everywhere He leads me I will follow, follow on,
Walking in His footsteps till the crown be won.
Follow follow I will follow Jesus
Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on
Follow follow I will follow Jesus
Everywhere He leads me I will follow on
Down in the valley with my Savior I will go,
Where the storms are sweeping and the dark waters flow;
With His hand to lead me I will never, never fear,
Dangers cannot fright me if my Lord is near.
Follow follow I will follow Jesus
Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on
Follow follow I will follow Jesus
Everywhere He leads me I will follow on
Down in the valley, or upon the mountain steep,
Close beside my Savior will my heart ever keep;
He will lead me safely in the path that He has trod,
Up to where they gather in the rest of God.
Follow follow I will follow Jesus
Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on
Follow follow I will follow Jesus
Everywhere He leads me I will follow on
Note:
Some prefer "Follow Follow I would Follow Jesus" as
was written in the original hymn by Robert Lowry the writer.

Meaning & Inspiration
Hearing this from The Celebration Choir, it really lands on me how strange it is that we talk about following someone when we can’t even see where we’re going. The words mention the valley, and sure, that sounds nice when it’s about blooming flowers and water. But then the song turns, right? It drags you into the dark waters and the storms. I keep thinking about how easy it is to say I’ll go anywhere until the wind actually starts howling. It’s funny, or maybe terrifying, that the same path that leads to the sweet water also leads through the flood.
I wonder about that line, walking in his footsteps. If he really went through the dark places, then why do I act so surprised when I end up there too? It feels like the song is trying to talk me out of my own comfort, reminding me that the safety isn’t about missing the danger but about being near the one who knows the way. It’s like when the disciples were out on the lake; they were terrified, but the point wasn't that the storm stopped immediately—it was that he was right there in the boat.
There’s a bit in the lyrics about the mountain being steep, and honestly, sometimes just waking up feels like climbing that hill. You look for the easy path, but the promise is just being close. Keeping the heart near him. It isn't about being strong enough to handle the climb, which is a relief because I’m definitely not. It’s just about not letting go of the hand, even when the path doesn't look like anything I would have chosen for myself. You want to believe you’d follow anywhere, but then the next turn comes, and you start asking why he’s taking you that way instead of the other, easier one. That’s the part I can't quite get past.
