Redeemed Quartet - Is That Footsteps That I Hear Lyrics

Lyrics

1.

There is something that's gon-na happen,

and the day is drawing near, it is time to get excited,

is that footsteps that I hear?

Come on Gabriel, blow your trumpet, all the dead in Christ shall rise,

we are going to a meeting, just beyond the eastern skies

Chorus:

Is that footsteps

Is that footsteps that I

That I hear? Heavenly portals seem so near,

Hear heavenly portals seem so near heavenly

Heavenly lights are shining clear,

is that footsteps thati hear

Lights are shining clear

2.

Are you ready for the rapture, when we meet Him in the air

Oh his coming is drawing closer, is that footsteps that I hear

Many a saint has fought the battle, run the race and shed the tears,

and it's time to get excited, is that footsteps that I hear?

Is that footsteps

Is that footsteps that I

That I hear? Heavenly portals seem so near,

Hear heavenly portals seem so near heavenly

Heavenly lights are shining clear,

is that footsteps thati hear

Lights are shining clear

Hope this is what you are looking for! God bless!!

Meaning & Inspiration

I’ve been thinking about that Redeemed Quartet song all morning. It’s got that old-fashioned sound that just pulls you in, but listening to the lyrics, it does something strange to my chest. It keeps asking, "is that footsteps that I hear?" and it makes me stop and wonder if I’m actually looking for Him or if I’m just caught up in the rhythm. It pulls directly from the idea of the dead in Christ rising first, which takes me straight to Paul writing to the Thessalonians about the trumpet call and the gathering in the clouds. That part feels solid, like it’s anchored in the hope we’re supposed to hold onto, even when things feel heavy here.

But then I sit with the idea of listening for footsteps at the door. There’s a tension there because Jesus told us that no one knows the day or the hour, not even the angels, yet the song leans so hard into this sense of immediate, almost audible arrival. I want that to be true—I want to be ready—but it makes me question if my anticipation is based on a real, biblical watchfulness or just an emotional reaction to a melody. Scripture tells us to keep our lamps lit and stay awake, which feels a bit more like a steady, quiet discipline than the frantic excitement the song suggests.

It’s easy to get swept up in the lyrics about meeting Him in the air and running the race, but do I really live like I expect Him to walk through the door tonight? Or am I just singing along to a nice tune because it sounds comforting to think the portals are opening? I guess I’m struggling with whether this is a genuine preparation of the heart or just a way to make the wait feel a little less lonely. It makes me wonder if I’m waiting for a sound or if I’m actually waiting for the Person.
