Paul Morton - Walk On By Faith Lyrics

Lyrics

We cannot see in the future,

we cannot see through dark clouds.

We cannot see through teardrops,

but walk on by faith each day.

(On Monday), walk on,

(On Tuesday), walk on,

let Jesus be your guide.

(He's able to carry your load),

(He can see way down the road);

walk on by faith each day,

walk on by faith each day.

(On Monday), walk on,

(On Tuesday), walk on,

Let Jesus be your guide.

(He's able to carry your load),

(He can see way down the road);

Walk on by faith each day,

Walk on by faith each day.

(On Monday), walk on,

(On Tuesday), walk on,

let Jesus be your guide.

(He's able to carry your load),

(He can see way down the road...)

Walk on.

Walk on by faith each day,

walk on by faith each day.

Meaning & Inspiration

I’ve been sitting here thinking about those lines, especially the part about not being able to see through the dark clouds or the teardrops. It feels honest, like life really is. We are constantly told to have it all figured out, but the song just acknowledges that we’re blind to what’s coming next. It reminds me of how Paul wrote to the church in Corinth about walking by faith and not by sight. That’s a hard thing to actually do when your gut is screaming at you to find a concrete plan or a guarantee.

When he says to walk on by faith each day, it’s not really talking about some big, singular moment of courage, but the mundane stuff. Monday, Tuesday—the days that just keep coming even when you’re tired. There’s a comfort in thinking that Jesus is the one guiding, but I guess I get stuck on how we know we’re actually following Him and not just our own desperation to get out of the dark. The lyrics say He can see down the road, and I want to believe that, but does that mean the road is going to be smooth? It feels like the song skips over the possibility that the road might lead somewhere painful, even if He is carrying the load. It’s a simple sentiment, maybe too simple, but in the middle of a bad week, it’s easy to grab onto the idea that someone else sees what I can't. I just wonder if I’m missing something about the cost of that kind of faith, or if I’m just looking for a promise that the clouds will clear up sooner than they actually do.
