Lakewood Church + Kim Walker-Smith - In The Name Lyrics

Lyrics

Our God is strong in battle
Our God can never fail
Through Him our chains our broken
In Him the sick are healed

In the name of Jesus
Giants are defeated
Every single mountain has to move
You're faithful to Your promise
You finish what You started
There is none as powerful as You

Jesus
Jesus
We see the power of Heaven
Setting the captives free
We are the church, awakened
Singing in victory

In the name of Jesus
Giants are defeated
Every single mountain has to move
You're faithful to Your promise
You finish what You started
There is none as powerful as You
Jesus

Be lifted higher
Be lifted higher
We lift the sound of Your great name
Be lifted higher
Be lifted higher
Lord, we exhault You in our praise

In the name of Jesus
Giants are defeated
Every single mountain has to move
You're faithful to Your promise
You finish what You started
There is none as powerful as You

In the name of Jesus
Giants are defeated
Every single mountain has to move
You're faithful to Your promise
You finish what You started
There is none as powerful as You
Jesus

Meaning & Inspiration

I’ve been sitting here thinking about that line, "every single mountain has to move," and I keep flipping back and forth on how it sits with me. It’s bold, definitely, and it leans hard into the idea of Jesus having authority over everything—which, I mean, is obviously true. You think about Philippians, where every knee bows at that name, and it’s hard not to feel that weight when you’re singing it. But then I get stuck. When I look around at my own life or people I love, the mountains don't always move. They stay right where they are. Does that mean the song is wrong, or am I just not catching the right angle? Maybe it’s not about my circumstances shifting but about Him being bigger than whatever I’m facing.

There’s that bit about Him finishing what He started. That felt like a gut check. It’s right there in Philippians too, isn't it? He who began a good work will carry it on. That part feels solid, like I can actually anchor my feet there. But then the song talks about the sick being healed and chains being broken in His name, and I find myself wondering if we sometimes treat His name like a magic key that just forces things to happen the way we want them to right now. It feels powerful, almost intoxicating to sing, but I have to wonder if I’m actually leaning on His sovereign will or if I’m just trying to dictate how the story goes. Are we really seeing the power of Heaven, or are we just hoping for it? I’m not sure I have an answer, but I can’t stop thinking about whether the "victory" we’re singing about is the one He promised, or one I’ve invented for myself.
