Lyrics

They say this mountain can't be moved

They say these say these chains will never break

But they don't know You like we do

There is power in Your name

We've heard that there is no way through

We've heard the tide will never change

They haven't seen what You can do

There is power in Your name

So much power in Your name

Move the immovable

Break the unbreakable

God we believe

God we believe for it

From the impossible

We'll see a miracle

God we believe

God we believe for it

We know that hope is never lost

Oh for there is still an empty grave

God we believe no matter what

There is power in Your name

So much power in Your name

Move the immovable

Break the unbreakable

God we believe

God we believe for it

From the impossible

We'll see a miracle

God we believe

God we believe for it

Hey

You are the way when there seems to be no way

We trust in You God You have the final say

You are the way when there seems to be no way

(Yes You are)

We trust in You God You have the final say

(You have the final say)

Move the immovable

Break the unbreakable

God we believe

God we believe for it

From the impossible

We'll see a miracle

God we believe

God we believe for it

God we believe

God we believe for it

Meaning & Inspiration

I’ve been stuck on this song, "Believe For It" from the 2021 album, because it hits on that tension we all feel when things seem hopeless. It starts with people saying mountains can’t be moved or chains won't break, which feels so much like the doubt that creeps in when you’re staring at a real problem. It reminds me of how the disciples struggled with that mustard seed of faith when they couldn't cast out the demon. The lyrics go straight to the empty grave as the anchor for that hope. That feels biblically solid, because if the resurrection is true, then everything else—the mountains, the impossible situations—has to bow to that reality. It’s like Paul talking about the power that raised Jesus from the dead being the same power that’s at work in us.

But then I stop and wonder if I’m missing something. We sing about God moving the immovable and breaking the unbreakable, and I believe He can, but I also think about how Paul asked for that thorn to be removed three times and it didn't budge. He got grace instead. Is the "miracle" always a change in our circumstances, or is it sometimes the strength to stay in the middle of them? It’s easy to sing about the "final say" being exactly what we want, but the final say for Lazarus was life, while for Stephen it was a martyrdom that opened heaven. I’m wrestling with whether my faith is tied to God doing what I ask, or just to who He is even when the mountain stays exactly where it is. Maybe the belief isn't just a key to get what we want, but a way to stay anchored when the tide doesn't seem to turn. It’s hard to reconcile that with the part of the song that feels like a demand for a miracle. It makes me question if I’m believing for the right things or if I’m just projecting my own desire for comfort onto God’s sovereignty.
