Casting Crowns - Nobody - I'm Living For The World To See Nobody But Jesus Lyrics
Lyrics
Why You ever chose me
Has always been a mystery
All my life I’ve been told I belong at the end of the line
With all the other Not-Quites
With all the Never-Get-It-Rights
But it turns out we’re the ones You’ve been looking for all this time
‘Cause I’m just a nobody
Trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody who saved my soul
Ever since You rescued me
You gave my heart a song to sing
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
Moses had stage fright
And David brought a rock to a sword fight
You picked 12 outsiders nobody would’ve chosen
And You changed the world
Well, the moral of the story is
Everybody’s got a purpose
So when I hear that devil start talking to me, saying
“Who do you think you are”
I say…
I’m just a nobody
Trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody who saved my soul
Ever since You rescued me
You gave my heart a song to sing
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
So let me go down down down in history
As another blood-bought faithful member of the family
And if they all forget my name, well, that’s fine with me
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
So let me go down down down in history
As another blood-bought faithful member of the family
And if they all forget my name, well, that’s fine with me
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
‘Cause I’m just a nobody
Trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody who saved my soul
Ever since You rescued me
You gave my heart a song to sing
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see
Nobody but Jesus

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been stuck on the idea of being a nobody lately. It’s funny because we usually spend our whole lives trying to be someone, and then this song flips it, saying God actually looks for the ones at the end of the line. It hits close to home when they mention Moses and David. It’s true, right? God never really picked the people who had it all together. He went for the stutterer and the shepherd boy. It makes me think of what Paul said about God choosing the foolish things to shame the wise, just to make sure no one could brag about their own strength. It’s comforting to think that my weaknesses don't disqualify me, but it’s also a little convicting because I’m so quick to hide the parts of me that aren't impressive.
I keep wrestling with that line about being a nobody trying to tell everybody about Somebody. It’s simple, maybe almost too simple, but it lines up with that feeling that the messenger doesn't really matter as much as the news being carried. If I’m honest, I get distracted by wanting people to like me or think I’m doing a good job. But the song pushes back against that. It’s trying to say that being "blood-bought" is the only title that actually sticks. I wonder if I really mean that, though. Would I actually be okay if they forgot my name, as long as they saw Jesus? That’s a heavy question. It feels like the song is pointing toward a kind of surrender that I’m still figuring out. It’s easy to sing about letting go of your reputation, but it’s a whole different thing to live like your name doesn't matter. I’m just not sure if I’m as ready to be a nobody as these words make it sound.
