About Zealand Worship

Zealand Worship is an American worship band based in Franklin, Tennessee, founded by musician Phil Joel, best known for his tenure as a bassist and vocalist for the Christian rock band Newsboys. The band’s music is categorized as contemporary Christian music, worship, and rock, and the project grew out of Joel’s desire to create organic, congregational worship music after his departure from the Newsboys.

The group began as a musical entity in 2012 and officially launched in 2015 when it signed with Word Worship, a division of Word Entertainment. The name Zealand Worship is a reference to a “state of being zealous” for the land God has for individuals, rather than a reference to the country of New Zealand. The band’s lineup has included Phil Joel, Ben Bugna, Ben Garrett, and Roger Angove.

Zealand Worship released The EP in 2015, followed by singles including “Good Good Father” and “Your Love Is Wild.” In 2018, the band released the album LIBERATED, along with additional singles such as “Spirit Sing,” “That’s Who You Are,” “You Awaken My Soul,” and “End Of The World.”
