Yanga Sobetwa

Yanga Sobetwa (born 25 April 2001) is a South African gospel singer-songwriter who rose to national prominence in 2018 after winning the 14th season of Idols South Africa at the age of 17. Born in Cape Town, she grew up in areas including Delft, Langa, and Khayelitsha.

She released her debut studio album, Promised Land, in 2019. Sobetwa is a member of a church worship group and has spoken publicly about her Christian faith and her desire to bring teenagers closer to God through her work.

Her catalog includes singles such as “Scars (All Over Me),” “Ngithathe,” and “Jeso O Ntekane.” She also collaborated with the Hosanna Gospel Singers on the track “Ke Ka Thomo.” Promised Land was nominated for Best R&B/Soul Album at the 2020 South African Music Awards. In 2022, she received an honorary adult friend award at the World’s Children’s Prize Ceremony.
