Wintley Phipps

Wintley Phipps is an ordained Seventh-day Adventist minister and a gospel singer with a bass-baritone voice. He was born Wintley Augustus Phipps, Sr. on January 7, 1955, in Trinidad and Tobago. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Oakwood University and a Master of Divinity degree from Andrews University. His musical style is characterized as inspirational gospel, and he has served as a senior pastor at several Seventh-day Adventist churches, including in the Washington, D.C. area and Palm Bay, Florida.

Phipps’s recording career includes the albums I Give You My Life (1979), The Power of a Dream (1995), Favorite Hymns of Billy Graham (2005), Spirituals: A Symphonic Celebration (2006), No Need for Fear (2007), The Classics (2008), To God Be the Glory (2011), and A Symphonic Tribute to the Songs of Bill & Gloria Gaither (2025). He has performed at numerous national events, including National Prayer Breakfasts and presidential inaugural prayer services, and is a two-time Grammy Award nominee.

Phipps founded the U.S. Dream Academy, a non-profit organization that provides mentoring and tutoring to at-risk youth. He is also an author, having written The Power of a Dream and Your Best Destiny. His philanthropic work has been recognized with Oprah’s Angel Network “Use Your Life” Award, the Excellence in Mentoring for Program Leadership Award from MENTOR, Philanthropist of the Year from the National Center for Black Philanthropy, Inc., the Master of Influence Award from the National Speakers Association, and the 2019 AARP Purpose Prize.
