Trey McLaughlin

Trey McLaughlin is a gospel singer, composer, and choir director who serves as the Director of Worship and Arts at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. He was born in Augusta on March 30, 1984, and earned a Bachelor of Music Performance degree with an emphasis in vocal pedagogy from Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music. In 2009, he founded and began leading the gospel ensemble The Sounds of Zamar, a group that has become central to his ministry and recording career.

McLaughlin’s musical style blends contemporary gospel, musical theater, and original compositions. Through The Sounds of Zamar, he has released the album Limitless in 2012, which includes songs such as “I Will Praise,” “On Calvary,” “In Awe of You,” “My Soul Loves Jesus,” “Abba Father,” “More Like Him,” and “Prolific Praise.” He has performed alongside gospel artists including William McDowell, Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, and VaShawn Mitchell.

In addition to his church and ensemble work, McLaughlin has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, teaching graduate-level courses. He is also the artistic director of Creative Impressions, a non-profit performing arts youth group. His career reflects a commitment to music education and worship leadership, grounded in his academic training in vocal pedagogy.
