About Third Tyme Out
Third Tyme Out is a bluegrass group that performs traditional gospel music. The band was formed in 1991 in Cumming, Georgia, by Russell Moore, Mike Hartgrove, and Ray Deaton after the three musicians departed from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. The group is frequently billed as Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out.
Their musical repertoire covers both traditional bluegrass and gospel material. Over the years, the group has maintained a long-standing presence in the bluegrass music scene since the 1990s. Among their recorded gospel songs are “When the Angels Carry Me Home,” “I Want to Stroll over Heaven,” “Giving My Soul Back to Him,” “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” “Eternity Has Begun,” “I Feel Closer to Heaven Everyday,” and “Sail on to the Promised Land.” The band also released the album Across the Miles in 1994.
Through their blend of bluegrass instrumentation and gospel lyrics, Third Tyme Out has built a catalog that reflects their roots in both musical traditions.
