The Tri-City Singers

The Tri-City Singers was a gospel choir directed by songwriter and producer Donald Lawrence. The group consisted of 34 singers recruited from Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Gastonia and Charlotte, North Carolina. Donald Lawrence served as the group’s musical director after taking over the position from a friend.

The ensemble debuted in 1993 with the album A Songwriter's Point of View on the GospoCentric label. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. That same year, the group appeared on Billboard’s list of Top Ten Gospel Groups.

The Tri-City Singers released several albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including Bible Stories (1995), Hello Christmas (1997), tri-city4.com (2000), Go Get Your Life Back (2002), and Restoring the Years (2003). Their song “The Blessing of Abraham” spent 18 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart. The group received multiple Stellar Award honors and a nomination for an NAACP Image Award during their career.

The group was active throughout the 1990s and early 2000s before disbanding in 2006. Their final concert was documented on the live releases Finalé: Act One and Finalé: Act Two.
